No, Daniel Craig hasn’t suddenly dropped out of Bond 23/Skyfall he’s still set to hoist his gun and fight bad guys but in an interview whilst promoting Real Steel he has expressed a wish that makes us think he made a wrong turn along the way.
One of the most iconic roles on the big screen, and to play him is an honour, so why did Jackman turn down the chance to torment M and bed the latest Bond girl a few years back? …as according to him that’s what happened. When Casino Royale was being cast, he was offered the chance to don a tux but he was too involved with X-Men and it’s sequels to attend a casting. He told the Press Association:
“I got a call from my agent saying, ‘There is some possible interest in you for Bond, are you interested?’ At the time I wasn’t. I was about to shoot X-Men 2 and Wolverine had become this thing in my life and I didn’t want to be doing two such iconic characters at once.”
So unlike Robert Downey Jr (Sherlock Holmes and Iron Man) Jackman didn’t fancy complicating his filming schedule that much. The question is, would he have the same response if he was offered the role again?
“I think every male at some point thinks about playing James Bond so it was not right then, but it may be right if it comes back.”
More speculation than admission but it does get the cogs turning. Give it a thumbs up if you like the idea of Hugh taking over after Craig gives up.
