It’s been long enough now. The people are tired and demand what they deserve; Robert De Niro in a good film. We’ve spent time Fock-ing and other such nonsense, it’s time we get the old De Niro back and it just so happens that Sean Penn might be the man to get him there.
THR have revealed that four years after Into the Wild and Penn is now set to direct De Niro in The Comedian. Now, now don’t panic ease up on the crap comedy alarm bells (Penn just isn’t the sort is he?), no this is in fact a soul searching drama of sorts that sees De Niro as the titled funny man who ends up doing community service after giving a heckler a beating with his microphone. Things are looking down of course until he meets the always lovely Kristen Wiig who turns that mole accompanied frown upside down. Hurrah.
It’s not too De Niro-ish but it sounds a damn sight better than some of the other steaming heaps the acting legend has put his name to over the past few years. Here’s hoping it gets some good and well earned laughs when filming starts later next year.
