18 Animated Feature Films Submitted For Oscars 2012

Oscars

The London Film Festival has just drawn to a close on another fantastic year, Arthur is the first film out of the Christmas hamper shortly and stars have started to turn on twinkly lights around the country so of course it’s time to chat about Oscar predictions.

Personally a bit early for us but hey we just report the news, not create it. We’ll be honest we’ve not been fortunate enough to see each and every single entry yet but we are agreed that we have a diverse and interesting list vying for the golden bald bloke. That said though, this is the first year in a few where an anime film has not been submitted as a contender.

The full list is in alphabetical order below:

The Adventures of Tintin

Alois Nebel

Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked

Arthur Christmas

Cars 2

A Cat in Paris

Chico & Rita

Gnomeo & Juliet

Happy Feet Two

Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil

Kung Fu Panda 2

Mars Needs Moms

Puss in Boots

Rango

Rio

The Smurfs

Winnie the Pooh

Wrinkles

The award has been taken by Disney/Pixar for the last four years running but considering that their hopes are resting on Cars 2 this time around we don’t think that they should be working on a victory speech just yet.

The final nominations will be announced on 24th January next year, with the Academy Awards themselves being held the following month on Sunday, 26th February and these 19 will be narrowed down to at least 8 options.

Several of the films listed have not yet had their required Los Angeles qualifying runs. Submitted features must fulfill the theatrical release requirements and meet all of the category’s other qualifying rules before they can advance in the voting process. At least eight eligible animated features must be theatrically released in Los Angeles County within the calendar year for this category to be activated.

It’s true you really do learn something every day, what film gets your vote?

Confession time: I didn't watch Star Wars until I was 24, I don't alphabetise my film collection, I'll happily admit to liking bad films and Daniel Craig is my least favorite 007.
