I’m going to being fully honest, I’m not sure how I feel about this, I’ve read it from various sources just to confirm that it’s as legit as 007′s pistol and it would seem that it is, Fox have taken a risk in our eyes. We all love Bruce Willis here at Screen 22 HQ and anyone who isn’t a Die Hard fan may as well not speak to me but casting a relatively unknown as the man who might be set to continue the franchise? Alarm bells, smoke alarms and sirens are sounding simultaneously.
We already know that grown up Lucy won’t be set to return and across October of 2011 there were rumours that many known actors may well be taking up the vest, they included Ben Foster (which was then categorically denied) leaving the post wide open for Paul Dano, Aaron Paul (the guy we were rooting for) and Milo Ventimiglia to take, but no instead meet Australian actor, Jai Courtney. Er who?
For a bit of an intro to this new face, he is an Australian actor who played Varro in the rather explicit Spartacus: Blood and Sand, has a starring role in the upcoming Tom Cruise film One Shot, and got his start on Australian TV and trod the boards a little too.
It’s a bold move to make, the screen still above is from a screen test Jai and Bruce did, and they do already look comfortable together, Bruce showing his angered annoyance and Jai apologising for cocking his gun incorrectly or shooting the wrong target or something. We assume.
As for what to expect in Die Hard 5 – titled A Good Day to Die Hard, we know that McClane is going international and finds himself in Russia, in order to bail out his son, who somehow has found himself involved with some sort of terrorist organisation. Other than that who knows, will Holly show up?
How do you feel about this announcement? Would someone else have done a better job or are you willing to give the Aussie a chance? We will find out come Valentine’s Day 2013 – what a date it’s going to be!
