Fans of Yann Martel’s novel The Life of Pi will be more than happy to know that Ang Lee’s film adaption is going swimmingly. Especially for the tiger.
Ang Lee has been hard at work wrangling animals as well as working 3D cameras (I don’t feel sorry for you in the slightest Mr. Lee) and the above image is only a taster. Lee revealed the effort he went to to get the movie made. “I’m dealing with a kid, a tiger and water, so the learning curve is enormous.” He also said of using 3D cameras; “it’s like operating a refrigerator.” Still don’t feel sorry for you Mr. Lee.
However, for all those rocking in the corner of your rooms crying “but why is he dealing with a kid, a tiger and water?!” I’ll give you a bit of back-story. I’m nice like that.
Life of Pi chronicles the life of Piscine Molitor “Pi” Patel (Suraj Sharma) during three “sections”. Pi is born Hindu but begins to explore other religions in an attempt to love God. However he gets teased at school and so spend a lot of time at his father’s zoo looking after the animals. Whilst still a teen, his family decide to relocate to Canada but the ship they travel in sinks leaving him stranded on a lifeboat with only a tiger, hyena, orangutan, and a zebra. Although from the look of the image above that doesn’t seem to pan out well for most the animals. Soon, officials from the Japanese Maritime investigate the events of the ships sinking. Poor Pi.
Life of Pi also features Tobey Maguire, Gerard Depardieu, Irrfan Khan, Tabu and Adil Hussain. It isn’t released until December 21st so hopefully we will have a trailer to keep you company soon.
