This morning we’ve been greeted by a gruff looking Ben Affleck wielding a seventies trim for his upcoming directorial effort, Argo and as we suspected the film looks bloody brill if the trailer at Apple is anything to go by. Or if you’re lazy and don’t want to click, see below.
Collecting a cast that will make your head spin (Alan Arkin? John Goodman? Bryan Cranston? Oh my!) and with Affleck leading the way in front and behind the camera, Argo tells the true story of a 52 Americans who went into hiding in Tehran in 1979. With no where to run after the US embassy was infiltrated, the local forces search high and low for the Americans who are counting the days before they’re found and killed.
With the only hope on foreign soil being to find refuge at a Canadian Ambassador’s home, it’s up to Affleck’s CIA lad back in the U.S. to come up with a plan on how to rescue them. Turns out he’s got the best of a bad one when he plans to take a team of operatives, have them pose as an American film crew working on a sci-fi film and zip over to Tehran and get the Americans out.
On close inspection this actually feels less like Affleck’s previous works, lacking the brutal and blunt effect he’s had with Gone Baby Gone and The Town. In fact, we’d dare say that this has an almost smart and Clooney-like shimmer to things reminiscent of Confessions Of A Dangerous Mind. We’re not here to compare though folks, honest instead watch the trailer and judge for yourself before Argo hits the screens in October.
As an extra added treat we’ve also spotted the poster for the film as well, bursting with eye candy and nice imag…ah who are we kidding it’s bland as bran flakes but we’re still not phased. Enjoy!
