Are you sitting down? No sharp implements nearby? Nothing to shock or hinder you more than this headline could? No? Good. Because what you’ve read is unthinkable and unimaginable but 100% true – Disney have confirmed an Avengers sequel and it has cooked us to our core.
If you couldn’t smell the sarcasm seeping from that previous paragraph than we do apologise and we’ll be sure to try harder next time. Anyway, the matter at hand is that the House of Mouse have confirmed that Earth’s Mightiest Heroes are coming back for seconds after making a fat wad of cash since the films release (touching just over the $700 million mark to be more accurate). There’s no solid PR statement revealing that it’s a done deal, none of the costumed thesps have mentioned it (so Hemsworth hasn’t stolen his mothers drapes again just yet) but Disney CEO Bob Iger has clarified for us (via THR) that it’s most certainly on the cards.
Of course fans of Cap and the rest of his team shouldn’t get too excited as they’ve all got to have a few more solo gigs before the Earth faces a threat that no single hero could handle. With casting for Iron Man 3 still underway and Thor 2 and Captain America 2 lined up as well we could have a long wait on our hands (that’s not including the potential Hulk film given the green lads surge of popularity).
The question is of course is that will Joss Whedon get a call again? All evidence (every $700 million worth) points to yes. We can only sit and wait though. Watch this space until it’s filled in the next ten minutes with another Avengers story, probably.
