Few people remember that before James Cameron had Leonardo DiCaprio hanging off a boat in the middle of the ocean, Baz Luhrmann gave a helping hand in making him a star with Romeo + Juliet. Come December, both actor and director will release their reunion with The Great Gatsby and today we’ve got a look at the brand new trailer for the film. Our verdict? It looks bloody gorgeous.
Telling F Scott Fitzgerald’s classic tale, The Great Gatsby sees Tobey Maguire as Nick Carraway who whisks himself away in the high life of New York in 1922 where he crosses paths with the eccentric Jay Gatsby (DiCaprio). Here Nick finds himself baring witness to a story of love and loss and the limitlessness the rich and powerful have at their disposal. Hearts are broken, money is spent and lives are lost all in the name of love. Luhrmann should have no problem with any of it then?
Feeling like a minute or so of pure eye-candy, the trailer shows that Luhrmann is hard at work painting a beautiful portrait of 1920′s New York and we can’t wait to see the finished article. As for the cast? Well the only two main players on display are DiCaprio and Maguire (understandably) who both look to be giving it their all.
