We can hear the cursing to the heavens already with some of you having read the headline up top, nevertheless what you see is true. MGM have rummaged through their classic cupboard once again and are currently in talks with Tom Cruise to remake The Magnificent Seven. Gasp!
As much as that chill down our spine is kicking up a fuss we’d be mighty ignorant if we didn’t highlight the fact that the star-studded, gun-slingin’ classic starring Yul Brynner and Steve McQueen is also a remake in itself of The Seven Samurai. Still, the result was a blinder and to try and top it is a brave and borderline stupid effort – no offence Mr. Cruise.
At the moment there’s no solid confirmation that this is all going ahead, Cruise is merely showing interest in the project and as yet there are no directors or writers involved in bringing it to life. With that said though, we’ll be sure to keep an eye on this and the potential casting that can come from it. Let’s be honest, if they’re going to try and match the star quality the original western had then there could be a hefty host of names slowly brewing if this actually comes about. Fingers crossed it doesn’t though, eh?
