Runner up of Grinning Buffoon 2012 just after Tom Cruise, Ed Helms has had his ups and downs on the big screen recently. Now comes news that he’s set to take the lead in a franchise revival for National Lampoon’s Vacation follow up, simply titled Vacation.
His name has been rumoured to be attached to the project for some time but the folks at Variety now revealed that he is 100% on board to take the role of Rusty Griswold (son of Clark) who takes his own offspring and other-half on a getaway from hell.
Interestingly in the original Vacation films, Rusty was played by various talents including Anthony Michael Hall in the first film and The Big Bang Theory’s Johnny Galecki in the Christmas Vacation. Now whilst it’s a shame neither of these two big names aren’t returning to pick up the Griswold torch, it’s good to see they’ve got someone with the comedic chops like Helms to carry it instead. One promising detail to take into consideration is that Horrible Bosses and Helms familiars, John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein who wrote the manager murdering movie are also on the job for this one, picking up directing duties as well.
At the moment there’s no confirmed date for shooting what with Helms schedule being clogged up at The Office as well as another Hangover lined up as well but we doubt it won’t be long before our bags are packed again for when a new clan of Griswold’s start hitting the road.
