Avatar 4 Rejected?

Whilst Avatar 2 and 3 are definitely pressing ahead, Avatar 4 seems to have been dropped.  Whilst director James Cameron mentioned a fourth earlier in the year, producer Jon Landau  said ”we are doing two back-to-back, but not a third” in regards to sequels.

But is this such a bad thing? Whilst Avatar was a box office smash the general response is mixed between people who think it’s brilliant and those who think it’s overrated. There’s no doubt that a sequel will also be a hit and a third maybe less so, but a fourth? That sounds like ruining something good to us. Plus, a trilogy is always a good thing. Imagine it – “do you have the Avatar trilogy?” or – “do you have the four Avatar films?” I know which one I’d pick.
